The part where Dmitri dragged Alyosha down to his level and corrupted his soul forever by lying to him. it is Alyosha's excessive love of his brother that ultimately damns him. the virtue of filial piety, having become greater than the love of truth, is the fatal flaw that transforms Alexei from a good man into a lost soul.
