The famine is caused by the UK, he's right there. The blight knocked out the Irish staple food, but potatoes were not the only crop. They were just the only non cash crop. It was a couple of bumper years for corn and barley and wheat and everything else, but that all got shipped to England as tax and rent. Don’t listen to anyone else telling you otherwise. Edmund Burke is a legit political philosopher to read, along with Tocqueville and Schumpeter.

Schumpeter was a great political philosopher, having read Pareto and others informed by his indifference curve analysis, drawing the correct conclusions from it as he should, and correctly interpreting, down to a technical detail, how everything actually functions. He also understood the petulance of The Communist Manifesto, while still entertaining a functional communist state.

But he was a terrible economist.

But this post isn’t about Schumpeter, it should be about Edmund. Yeah, Mr. Burke was very intelligent and, like Schumpeter with The Communist Manifesto, held correct ideas about the petulance of the French Revolution :3
