Do you ever get a little sad when you read an old book, knowing that the author has been dead for many years? Almost like you are getting to know them personally through their writing

No, I get sad when I read an old book because it hilights the absolute shitshow that is 2019. Read Trollope and every single line I’m like “welp, couldn’t say that today,” “wow gender binary assumed”, “where’s all the trannies?”, “so many white people.”

Experiencing the relative sanity of the nineteenth century— itself a pretty progressive time— is bittersweet, well mostly bitter.
