I'm not sure if I believe in God, but for the sake of argument, if one were to subscribed to certain pantheistic conceptions of God where God is all, God is the only true reality, etc., and everything else is an illusion, including our subjective notions of individuality, self-hood, and so on, then the problem of suffering could be dealt with fairly easily. God would be justified in creating the Universe and all the suffering in it because He is imposing it on Himself and no one else, because there is no one else. There is nothing else. There is only one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. Blaming God for Daisy's Destruction, or the Holocaust, or the Crusades, or the Inquisition, or whatever else, would be like blaming yourself killing someone in a dream.

This is not true. Time has no opposite, yet it is apparent to us. I don't think this sentiment holds global philosophical bearing. Humans have an emotional status quo, that is, we truly must experience happiness in order to feel unhappiness and vise versa, but that is determined by the existence of our natural emotional normativity, not a natural yin and yang sort of harmony. The suffering in the world is not absolute. You live in a world of suffering, but that is not the only option for the world. There could come a time where cruelty like this does not exist. I do not need to understand or enact torture in order to appreciate and give kindness, if that makes sense. The futility of eliminating suffering is only the fault of our technological capabilities. The existence of this sort of torment is not a universal absolute. It can be eliminated. Currently we cannot accomplish this, and efforts to minimize it would be at the sacrifice our civil freedoms.
