>he 'reads' plays
This is fucking worse when it is Shakespeare plays, there are probably regular performances near where you live. Do you read film scripts as well?

OP here, I want to add that a play is as /lit/ as a film i.e not at all.

I actually do. Sometimes they tell the story better than the end result.

it is actually a serious, interesting debate
I like literature and for some reason I'm not into theater
yes, there are a few theatre performances where I live, not a lot though, and it always costs 30€ so I won't even bother
Attending theatre plays also implies being social, which I don't like. Sometimes when there is female nudity I may be interested, but again, there would be people all around
and there would be

The bus fare alone to visit a theater near my house is enough to buy a book. Plus the whole dress code, you can't use normal clothes (jeans and boots).

I'm a shut-in. Are there any Shakespeare companies that release filmed versions of their plays on video? Ideally, I'd prefer more traditional interpretations, so like Julius Caesar as Julius Caesar, not Drumpf or some shit. Not racist, but I also find it jarring when I have to pretend that a bunch of characters from medieval Denmark or whatever are black (I know, I know, they didn't speak Elizabethan English, either, but it's easier for me to suspend disbelief for stuff like that). Any suggestions?

The Royal Shakespeare Company does film releases of some of their shit. That being said it's hit or miss on what kind of interpretation they've done. The Arkangel Shakespeare has a complete set of audio plays, if you're in to that kind of thing.

The bbc filmed every play sometime in the 90s, it’s easy to find the torrent- (terrible video quality and very sparse productions) it’s very dated, but better than going broke on the prices that the globe theatre’s website is asking.
