how many people here who say "read the bible" have actually done anything more than skim through job and ecclesiastes and memorize the deepest sounding verses

I've read the Bible, King James Version, but I haven't read the Apocrypha yet. You'll be able to find quite a few people who have on this board. There are some people on this board who have read the Bible, some Dostoevsky and very little else.

as someone who wants to read the bible, what translation should i go with? i'm thinking kjv just because its the "standard", but it seems like it'd be pretty tedious to actually read through the entire bible in that style.

I've read the NT several times, Genesis, most of the books of the prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah, Daniel, and the Psalms. KJV of course.

I like to read from the NT before bed.

If you are reading the Bible for literary purposes, read the KJV. If you are reading it for theological or personal/faith reasons, then you should read either the NKJV or the NIV.

I really want to read Ecclesiastes and Revelation, but as of now I'm reading "The death of Ivan Ilitch". I got some book that I'll read after this, but I think I'll pull it off to read Ecclesiastes and then Revelation.

I will finish other books inbetween while having the Bible going as a sort of a slow constant. I will pick up the pace after i fiish the other book im currently reading as Id like to finish the Bible before 2021.

I read the entire Bible in high school and I recommend that you don't read the entire thing. A lot of the prose is really mediocre and repeats itself incessantly since that's kind of the point of the whole text.
