>the children of WW2 vets don't understand their distant, PTSD-affected parents and decide to co-opt black cannabis/jazz culture to lash out at them, adding to their troubles
>meanwhile as part of post-WW2 Cold War era dick-waving, Russia and the USA stage a proxy war with east-asian countries reinforcing the hippie's stance that their parents are cunts
>LSD is developed by accident and early proponents describe it as like "psychic cybernetics" which nobody knows is true or not, causing research resulting in MK Ultra
>Korea and Vietnam finish up (kinda) and hippie burnouts disappear from pop-culture

Pic related makes the case for the flower child movement being a government backed psyop to defang the anti-war movement of the day by enticing it toward mindless hedonism. It gets a bit freewheeling with its conclusions toward the end, but the the initial scene it sets with all these musicians who are the children of high ranking members of the military or state flocking to a single suburb and creating similar music with each other within a matter of weeks is compelling.

nah, you got it wrong. you're a fucking moron if you think any broad cultural shift is manufactured. you're a fucking moron if you think that spontaneous, organic cultural shit aren't subverted from the get go. this is cia 101 by the way, they didn't expand their power by producing shifts or coup or new paradigms, they act as reagents, so no matter where society is headed, they are here to REACT not to PRODUCE. You can't win everytime if you produce, whereas if you act as a reagent, you are guaranteed to leave a mark on the product of the reaction. CIA imprints.

There are no cia agents, only reagents.

From Counterculture to Cyberculture by Fred Turner. How Hippies were actually a vehicle for repurposed cold war deep state ideas about emerging cybernetic order, the same ideas that gave us the free maret revolution in the 80s and 90s, and sillicon valley. after the failure of the new left technology replaced politics as the vehicle for utopian yearnings.

Umm basically everyone on /mu/ likes the velvet underground and king crimson, they are both /mu/core. And OP was asking about books about hippie culture in which the Beatles were inexorably enmeshed. You must be new.
