This thing is virtually useless to any educated person that is capable of adulting in a proper manner.
The only people that rave about it are those that didn't learn any skill from family, school, church, or any civic group they might have associated with.
Everything in J.P.'s book was taught to me as a child growing up, in preparation for growing up to be a responsible person in society.
It's a result of the effects of helicopter parenting, participation trophy ethics, rewarding people for failure, instead of having them be responsible and accountable for their actions (or lack of them).
In his book, JP compares lobsters to modern society. If lobsters form a better social unit that humans in 'Merika, it's no wonder we have been cucked by a generation of incompetent failures that have to be told to make their bed, clean their room, and practice basic personal hygiene.
The success of this book only reflects the problems endemic to America, not a solution for it.

It is okay for kids. Pretty basic.

Aside from the obvious political gap that he has with most others in the profession, I feel like Peterson would have been better off as an English prof. He seems a lot more passionate about textual interpretation and employs it more often than psychological theory.

I find it odd he's the 'most influential intelectual' when most of his philosophies are pretty derivative; really just reiterations of a quasi-dissent repurposed from obscure predecessors. He's not enabling change in those who weren't already on course on his pretty easy to conform to ideology.

Bear in mind that as a clinical psychologist that is precisely the type of people that he treats on a daily basis, that is, people growing up in broken homes with incompetent fathers, abusive mothers, bad influences, touchy uncles etc Just because you've been educated well doesn't mean that the aforementioned isn't a problem and therefore if the book does what it set out to do it's A solution (albeit not the ultimate one)

That really isn't the critique. It's a really superficial life, based on his very literal definitions of maladaptive behaviors. I'm not saying there's anything inherently wrong with that, I just don't like the dogmatic superiority it spurs. Jordan consistently prefers lecture over discussion - that's why it's not for me.
