I think he's lived too long. His works were ground breaking in the 60s and have unfortunately been outmoded by the basic advancement of entertainment. Some of his best works are the more disturbing ones, sometimes done while he was drunk off of his ass, and even then, he's not the great literary writer people think he is. He's good at character building (somewhat), and this allows normies to eat it up.

Charles Dickens, Victor Hugo, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Leo Tolstoy, Thomas Pynchon, David Foster Wallace, Walt Whitman, Ernest Hemingway, and John Steinbeck were all libshits.

Currently reading Under the Dome. I think he has a good grasp of plot. Has an ability to gain sympathy for certain characters, but overall isn't too consistent in building engaging characters.

There's also just a lack of anything which seems more disturbing. More interesting..

All in all it feels quite captivating plot-wise. just little lacking in imagination.

His moderate creativity in crafting plots is the only thing he deserves any praise for. This is why The Shining movie was so much better than the book, Kubrick took the interest plot from the otherwise mediocre book and used his competent directorial skills to make up for everything else. Just imagine what that novel could have been if it was written by a good writer.
