Why is that "immersion"? It's the context of the book, it's completely normal to want to understand it.
I tried to immerse myself more while reading Macbeth by listening to its stage music composed by Laibach. But it was kind of pointless, it'd be too dramatic while I'd be reading a more peaceful scene, and by the time I got to a more violent scene the album would be over altogether.
You remind me, though, of looking up the painting that Proust describes in Combray (pic related).
