Great books ITT. >>13159459 particularly is great.

My personal recommendations are:
>Mystics of Islam by Reynolds Nicholson
>Evil and Mystic's God by Michael Stoeber
>Cloud of Unknowing
>Jakob Boehme's Aurora

>The eastern religions understand it better anyway

While most western and eastern strains of mysticism arrive to apophatism by similar techniques; they are still sufficiently different as to not be comparable. You have very different metaphysical frameworks in each tradition so you are comparing only orange peels with apple peels. Let's not do that again

>From rationalism, religion was bound to sink into sentimentalism, and it is in the Anglo-Saxon countries that the most striking examples of this are to be found. What remains is therefore no longer even a dwindling and deformed religion, but simply ‘religiosity’, that is to say vague and sentimental aspirations unjustified by any real knowledge: to this final stage correspond theories such as that of the ‘religious experience’ of William James, which goes to the point of finding in the ‘subconscious’ man’s means of entering into communication with the divine. At this stage the final products of religious and of philosophical decline mingle together and ‘religious experience’ becomes merged in pragmatism, in the name of which a limited God is stipulated as being more ‘advantageous’ than an infinite God, insofar as one can feel for him sentiments comparable to those one would feel for a higher man.

I read Liber 777 by Crowley and I have literally no idea what he means in any of it and I'm not even sure I want to know. Are there any good books on Kabbalah that would be a good explanation?

If anyone has a good recommendation, I'd like some simple, comfy, nature-based and folksy mystic stuff to read as well. Something like St. Francis of Assisi but more narrative I suppose. I really liked "The Way of a Pilgrim" but I would've liked it to deal with the land and nature a bit more. That's more only gripe with a lot of mysticism nowadays. It's either sentimental tree hugging or soulless anthropocentricism with no regard to other life.
