admit it - a song of ice and fire is a modern masterpiece to be compared with the likes of Tolstoy (WAR & PEACE) and Shakespeare (major tragedies) at their best.

War & Peace, sure.

Shakespeare is a different beast. His plots and characters are pretty simple and archetypical but the command of language is too far of Martin. I don't see ASoIaF being too relevant in a century but then again, if LotR is almost there ... maybe.
