His ideas are useful to medical psychology. A really basic example is the issue of he psychoanalyst being unable to separate their own selves from the therapy; it's essentially a form of experimenter effect. There's the whole idea of leading questions too. To think that such an emphasis would have been placed on these things in social research straight away is naive.
