For most of my life I've studied the analytic tradition and formal logic, but now I'm getting into continental. Some of it is pretty retarded, but I like studying culture and analytics are too spergy to talk about it.

>> No.13139369

>>13139042
What's superior is trying to formalize concepts from continental philosophy yourself because it's perfectly possible but analytics would rather argue over what it means semantically for something to have a name or whatever.

It's just autistic wankery. Muh if A equals B then B equals A, NO! Actually if AB equals blablabla who cares, analytics are cocksucking faggots. Even literally in the case of Witty lmao

>the thought [of continental philosophy] is that the primary job of a philosopher is to understand a problem, rather than dissolving it through logical analysis
from beatrice-han-pile

not i dont know much about philosophy, but i thoroughly agree with this approach to it, so id say i prefer continental

The split is dumb, and you miss out on a lot of interesting ideas if you ignore either half. That being said, I do find the continental linguistic turn to be pretty awful.

>> No.13141914

>>13139042
The real division is metaphysical realism vs. metaphysical anti-realism. The majority of both analytic and continental philosophy is anti-realist.

>>13141340
When you combine the anti-realism side of analytics and continentals, you more or less get Rorty. It's a nightmare world where all observation is theory-laden, correspondence theory of truth is thrown out, and there is no mind-independent reality or truth. Nietzsche, structuralism, postmodernism, deconstruction, and other forms of cultural criticism derived ancestrally from literary criticism get you the same results as American pragmatism, logical positivism, post-positivist neo-pragmatism, and other forms of scientific naturalism.

When you combine the realism side of analytics and continentals you get things like Quentin Meillassoux writing on the same themes Thomas Nagel wrote about, or you get Markus Gabriel studying with Nagel and Chalmers at NYU but hanging out with Meillassoux and speculative realists, all the while having an appreciation for German Idealism.
