Okay, /lit/, tourist here.

I have never read a book unironically in my life (let alone ironically). The lengthiest piece text I have read is probably some copypasta in /x/. I have finally decided to educate myself. Where do I even start? Is there any saving?

Different anon here. Doing a PhD in pure math. What are some books that I can read after a day of exhausting parsing and working through highly involved textbooks? I want to read something before I go to bed but high level books are a bit too much.

Mediocre books like John Green or Robert Galbraith. Then move up to James Joyce or Thomas Pynchon.

I forgot to add, but specifically I want books that are of /lit/ value, not just the equivalent of A-list movie-tier books (I'm sure you have a name for those here), doesn't necessarily need to be non-fiction, but preferably. No meme replies please.

If there was an answer for everyone, it could be used for everyone, and no one would ask that question.

There is stereotype that modern literature requires forcing yourself to think, and classical works just flow into your mind. It is wrong, try to think at all times.

See pic related. A Mind For Numbers is really quick but should've been quicker. It's advice is solid though. How To Read A Book sounds comical but it's just basic advice for learning and remembering books.

Euthyphro, Apology, and Crito are the key dialogues you want to read (in that order). Then you probably want to read Meno, Phaedo, maybe Symposium, and finally the Republic.

reminds me of the time I read "In our time", which is a collection of short stories by him, with an illegitimate copy on my kindle, while I was on an airplane, but I didn't know anything about the book, thought it was a novel. I was extremely confused since it seemed like an extremely complex story that seemed very vaguely connected.

Just pick any book you think could be interesting. If you don't find it interesting after a while, pick another book. Use pleasant and even easy books if you like to build a habit of reading and accustom yourself to being focused on one thing for longer and longer periods of time.
