redpill me on the bible.

I've realized that I've been spiritually dormant my whole life. I'm not particularly religious, but I'm just reading this book with an open mind and open heart. So far it's triggered a lot of self reflection. My /lit/ friend of mine was talking about how the bible isn't meant to be taking literally and that everyone has their own personal relationship with jesus.

It's a cornerstone of Western civilisation and one of the most profound religious texts ever written. Continue studying it my friend. I'm sure you won't regret it.

Read it with commentary from the Church fathers, then go from there. You should read it regardless of what you end up taking from it. As other anons have said, it is vital to an understanding of western culture and the arts. You are going to miss a lot of references without knowing basic Bible knowledge.
If you want spirituality though, the Bible is only a part. Tradition and personal devotion is important as well. Also, whatever you do, look stuff up if you don't understand theologically what you are reading. Regardless of your theological beliefs, a ton of brainlets read the Bible once then think they are theologians.

Jews being based, then not based, then super based, then not based—all led by the one based God, the perfect fulfillment of basedness, and therefore the only truly capital B Based thing you can ever turn to.

Seriously, people are fucking retarded. If I had children the top of their reading list would be Old Testament, New Testament, and Quran. Not as a spiritual aid, philosophical treatise, etc., but as a historical document. The Bible specifically should be required reading for anyone using the Gregorian calendar, ie EVERYONE

the bible has zero literary value

read Sumerian texts. read Zoroastrian studies. check out Hittite mythology. engrkss yourself in the rich corpus of Egyptian works. all of these pre-date even the jewish portions of the bible and are of s significantly higher literary caliber not to mention more germaine to Western, bon-semitic culture.

the new testament is a laughable shambles of crudely imagined hysterics and some of the shittiest grammar you'll find in a canonical work. if you were informed on this subject you'd know this.

You are laughably contrarian. Even some of the most staunch atheists I know admit there is artistic value in the stories of the Bible.
