Name one serious philosopher who you've studied with any intensity.

It's not so much that I want a safe space; it's that I know you need one. The political right is intellectually bankrupt and is absolutely dwarfed by leftist scholarship.

Because they come from a literature/philosophy background but somehow try to talk about economics.

There is no such thing as right-wing or left-wing scholarship.

There is search for truth. If you apply a leftist or rightist bias to it, it becomes propaganda, not scholarship.

In fact, I assume you know he is going to quote Churchill. You're just trying to see if you can get him into your trap.

>economics is a super esoteric field that only big brained wizards can truly tackle after dedicating their lives to studying the intricacies of why the fuck everything cost money

truth is, humanities students will have a better grasp of economics than any actual econ 101 buglet because they have a deeper understanding of the human condition and comprehend that economic factors cannot be reduced to a brute numbers game. which is precisely why the entire field of economics hasn't actually progressed beyond adam smith. i mean TECHNICALLY it has but lets be real, it hasnt

Yes, my point is that the vast majority of the scholarship that searches for the truth results in left-wing (or at least left-liberal) conclusions. Marx is much, much, much more important than Spengler and there is a reason.

There are right-wing philosophers who are noteworthy and had good insights (Spengler I would count among them, for the record), but on aggregate the conclusion seems clear.

Why should I care about lifting the rest of the world out of poverty? Why should we outsource trade and industrial policy to future competitors, devastate our domestic productivity and turn large swathes of our country into a derelict depopulated hinterland so the Chinese can finally acquire a middle class?
