Constantly read, absorb information. Ask questions, and most importantly, be curious. Take a certain joy or pride in the pursuit of knowledge.

Stop wasting your life and start learning how to analyze and stay abreast of the “intellectual traditions.”

If your goal is to just fulfill your fetish for being an "intellectual", then the literary arts are not for you. Read Sam Harris or some shit.

Different methods for different folks. Try searching up studying methods of historical scientists. Newton wrote in the books white space. Benjammin Franklin wrote news stories into poetry and re-translated them into prose.
>tl;dr look for learning methods from smart people
However, it's hard finding good advice. Here's what I'd personally recc;
>Use the J. Adler reading method
1. Read introduction, preface, index, dustjacket, ect
2. Skim by jumping to random pages and reading what looks important
3. Speed read whole text
4. Read again with notebook
>take up learning basic math
search up /sci/ wiki. 4chan boards wiki. First books are
Quick Arithmetic by Carman
All The Math You'll Ever Need by Salvin
Speed Mathematics Simplified by Stoddard
Secrets Of Mental Math by Benjammin
>start doing crosswords, chess, mind games whatever
self eggsplanitory

You won't escape the brainlet pit unless you understand mathematics.
