Do you think these type of threads should be deleted? They seem to get a lot of replies, clearly people here want to have these discussions. It's not like there aren't countless books on these subjects (which people are regularly quoting, paraphrasing, recommending in these threads) so why is the topic not suitable for /lit/? Obviously /his/ exists, but its a fundamentally different board culture and you aren't going to have debates there as informed by the surrounding literature, whereas on /lit/ there are a fair amount of posters who've actually done the required reading. It's not like the board is flooded with this kind of stuff either. Are we really going to let the last good board on the site degrade into booktuber threads and circlejerking the same handful of fiction authors? /mu/ but with books?? This seems to be the moderation teams' ideal /lit/, but does the userbase want this? It's literally the only board on 4chan that allows for somewhat informed discussion of The Big Questions yet the threads that bring up these questions are continually deleted while these are all apparently fine because they 'mention a specific book' or whatever:

Yes. It's quite obvious we need a board about theology. /pol/, /his/, and /lit/ all have discussion about theology. We need a new board

>> No.13102246

>>13102229
theology can be approached from literary, historical and political angles. whats the problem with the discussions existing on three different boards? how can we even hope to truly understand most literature without some level of theological knowledge?

I agree, especially annoyed that the orthodox thread was deleted I was very interested in it, don't know much already. Meanwhile our mods leave up so many trash threads its ridiculous. Why is the art general allowed up but a religious discussion general isn't? (not complaining l, I like the art thread, just wish more quality content threads were up.)

It's not being analyzed though. It's just a flame war with no intelligent discussion in sight. It's always the same tired old arguments. A theology board could be a containment board.

>if books have been written about it, it must be literature
No. That's just dumb and promotes those "books for this feel?" threads
>getting lots of replies makes it lit related
Normally the bad actors and unread fill out the majority of those threads. There might be one guy feeding the trolls real quotes and further reading, but he's still feeding the trolls and giving them a veil of legitimacy to hide behind while making endless low quality posts.
>but if we don't have threads about non-lit things then there will only be the same fiction books over and over
That's patently untrue, since you've just argued that there are books they could have read about the topic if they googled before making the thread. We are not going to run out of books to discuss by actually discussing books. The only people who will need to read the sticky.
>but muh meta thread is totally legit
Hiro rescinded that order and you should take this to /qa/ so people who want to talk about books can ignore it more easily.

most religious traditions ARE literary traditions. its not that there are 'books written about it'- the books ARE it.

>most religious traditions ARE literary traditions
They're usually several splits of literary traditions (some Jains believe in female samsara, others in a different tradition don't; Chan Buddhism is different to Zen Buddhism despite being the literary tradition for the creation of Zen; Catholicism is not a stand alone literary tradition in the religious sense, and in the literary tradition has inspired more heresy than heterodoxy; the Torah is only in part written and the oral Torah is the source of many traditions which were never literary tradition; Shinto is not a particularly literary tradition; etc). You're poorly read on these matters and I suggest not posting until after you've been through the books Google indicates you need.

Should thumpers be allowed to proselytize?
Do jannies want to allow boomer folks who spill into here from /pol/? On one hand, their preaching (at times literal, like those threads) gets annoying, because it triggers equally stunted atheist fedoras, on another into a blatant and pointless cycle of religious bait.

But on another, boomers can bring some wisdom into here when they're not busy with their lord and savior, as they can be surprisingly well read guys.

Honestly, if I had to choose between removing the Christianity threads and removing the e-celeb/idiot threads, I'd pick the latter in a heartbeat.
