Let's assume it is correct that the human world is generally speaking a mix of joys and sorrows, and that the amount of lives which generally are strangely morbid are rare anomalies. Another point of consideration is that we should be happy for those lives that have minimal suffering. We are rightfully saddened and outraged when we hear of tortured individuals, so it's logical that we'd also be joyous when we hear of lives which are blessed with a unique amount of happiness.

>A man that hath no virtue in himself, ever envieth virtue in others. For men's minds, will either feed upon their own good, or upon others' evil; and who wanteth the one, will prey upon the other; and whoso is out of hope, to attain to another's virtue, will seek to come at even hand, by depressing another's fortune.

I don't think so. Perhaps you are just more rational. Although when I say saddned and outraged I mean briefly. Not that one spirals into depression.

I hold myself to very high standards and i do the same with everyone else. So i probably have more requirements for thinking that someone genuinely deserves empathy than a lot of people who feel empathic more often.

Nothing's wrong with you. There is an infinite amount of suffering in the world, and you can spend a lifetime empathising if you want to. But people are usually miserable because of their poor choices, or passive tolerance of their circumstances. Either way, fuck 'em. Their lives are their own responsibility.

not every case. I think of the 5 year old girl in the Philippines who was raped and murdered . That is pretty much the anomalous suffering I refereed to. I agree that most of human existence is not like that, and most times people do make their own beds whether they realize it or not.
