Do we know what kind of music may have influenced Pynchon? There's such a rock and roll quality to his books. It's that finger he has on the pulse of popular culture maybe. Gravity's Rainbow meshes so well with Rocket man by elton john even thought they were written independently to each other. All of his books feel like buffallo Springfield's For What It's Worth. Do you also percieve this connection? Why is it so?

I read Gravity's Rainbow before I discovered Charles Ives but now every time I think about the singing soldiers I think of songs like this

It's at least partially about rockets. It was admittedly partially inspired by Ray Bradbury's short story Rocketman. There are ofcourse multiple possible readings.
