It refers to Attar from Caanantie, and wider semitic mythology. In most myths he replaces or usurps the head of the pantheon but is quickly ousted or found unworthy and is linked to the the planet Venus or the morning star. This basic dynamic of a god attempting to replace another was retained when the Hebrews transitioned toward monotheism and eventually became the basis for Satan's rebellion against El/Yahweh.
