Is it worth reading about esotericism, magic, and the occult? For anyone here who has done so, what did you get out of it, and would you recommend any book to start with, like an introduction to the field? The symbolism seems to have shown up in literature and other arts consistently over the centuries, and based on some light readings on the topic, it seems like a fascinating form of ancient "knowledge" that could stimulate one's imagination.

Very dense. Good, but not accessible at all.

Magick in Theory and Practice aka Book 4 part 3, by Aleister Crowley, is very readable. Don't necessarily bother with the other parts of Book 4 until you digest this.

Aristotle's Organon? Jung is a good move. Throw in Campbell's Masks of God. Those two sound like what you're looking for. Catalog of comparative mythology and the secret psychodramas of all people.
