Literally the only thing I've considered interesting. Wouldn't say its a masterpiece or whatever though. The Book Theif was entertaining. Winton is just trite sentamentalism. I've read 1984 in Hindi and it's very good. Almost as good as English. Indians generally learn English from kindergarten itself so there is no need to learn Hindi so there is no culture of Hindi literature. I could be dead wrong tho.

Social-realism transposed to medieval times, while being social-realism I felt it captured the appeal of pretty much all other literary movements quite well. It's about a family of Lombard nobles close to the Lombard king who get BTFO by Charlemagne and are scattered across the world and their fates. Brainlets say of it that Charlemagne is a metaphor for Stalin but it's actually very pedantic historical fiction.

It's pretty decent, I've read 3 books by him (Le libraire, les pédagogues and this) and it's the one that stuck with me the most.

One thing I dislike about our literature is how obsessed with itself it is (and québécois culture is very low brow), but the portrait given of the MC in this book should have enough universal appeal.
