Do you own a typewriter, /lit/? Does it help your writing process?

>> No.12968487

Finally! Yes! It's awesome, I love using mine, I find myself being able to write full pages when I sit down unlike when I sit at the computer I can't get past a paragraph or two without going back to constantly edit, the typewriter is just - keep typing, get on with it. Perfect for first drafts.

Also there's no temptation to browse 4chan or play games instead. I need isolation to focus on anything, I also can't play the piano if I don't turn off my pc monitor. Writing longhand sucks too, it makes me too embarassed to write and it's tiresome.

I don't care if it makes me a hipster but I want to get one. I used one before and liked how satisfying the keys feel, plus there are no distractions. I write longhand but it hurts after a couple hours.

I'm not a weird fag for wanting a typewriter right?

>> No.12971501

I own a mechanical one and it's too damn cumbersome and pressing the keys requires too much effort. If I could get my hands on an electrical typewriter, that would be perfect.

IMAGINE HAVING EVERYONE WITHIN HEARING DISTANCE BE AWARE OF EVERY CHARACTER THAT YOU TYPE, KNOWING WHEN, AND FOR HOW LONG, YOU WRITE.

How much for a decent typewriter? I'm not willing to spend more than $50 on a new hobby

you can probably find one for that price on your local craigslist if you keep checking every so often.

i have one, it's really comfy to use. good way to write without distractions because they're easy to find on a computer and writing by hand is too slow for my taste

I'm not very dextrous, so I use vim on my pc with a mechanical keyboard. All the optimizations make up for my slow/innacurate typing. For instance I can press 3b to go back 3 words, press cw to change the word, then press A to start typing again at the end if the line. I still want a typeweiter though just for the ritualistic lack of distraction and lack of editing ability it provides.

it's very comfy, but i barely use it.
mainly i have inspiration or will to write later in the evening, and because my commieblock has cardboard walls, the thunderous banging of keys will be heard kms away

got mine for under 20$ off avito (equal to ebay), many people are selling their old typewriters that are still perfectly working
