what's your favorite novel that's not on /lit/'s top 100 and you consider it better than most of the things that made it to the list?

I've read stuff like pic related, Rilke's Malte Laurids Brigge and Biely's Petersbourg or Under the Volcano and they tend to be really unique and in general better than what I have read from the top 100 lists

The Passion According to G.H.

>> No.12957363

Chandler's The Long Goodbye

It's not better than most of the actual quality stuff in the top 50, but it beats out most of the meme entries

Malte Laurids Brigge is awesome

I'm re-reading Petersburg myself at the moment and it is one of my favourite novels. I love Apollon's chapters quite a lot giving how amazing his line of thinking is. Under the Volcano is obscure?

All Quiet on the Western Front. Someone recommended it to me a while back and I could not put it down. I'm not sure if I was looking at an up to date list or missed it, but Farenheit 451 is also a great read. Was kinda surprised I didn't see that one.

Yeah I'm pretty sure these are massively underrated, compared to some other stuff that made it into /lit/'s top 100. Same with Novel with Cocaine, and probably lots of other great novels

All Quiet on the Western Front
Suttree ( I think it’s on some of the lists, it needs to be higher imo)

Pic related is incredible. I've only read vokume 1 of 3 so far though. Stoked for the next uns. Which translation did you read?

EXCELLENT THREAD BROS

EXCELLENT
JUST EXCELLENT

My answer is Seblad (almost all of his work but mostly Austerlitz) and Bolano's Amulet.

What about Malte Laurids Brigge did you guys enjoy most?

Is it a hopeful book? Is it an antidote to the pomo despair I feel every day of my life?

>Hegel but no Heidegger

What? Good list otherwise.

I do agree that the current list is pretty great, my picks boil down more to personal taste than any objective claim to quality:
The Stars My Destination
The Tractatus Logico Philosophicus
The Epic of Gilgamesh

You'll have to put up with a few very vocal huetards who are displeased at Lispector's prominence. I like that book, but I can see how she annoys with her metafiction stuff.

Sebald is a very good answer.

My problem is too many books by the same author just for place holders. No David Mitchell or Krasznahorkai? They should at least get a recognition somewhere in the top 100.
