Kind of a strange one and I'm not fully sure why it affected me so strongly, but I stopped eating meat after the scene in Crime and Punishment where the donkey gets beaten to death. It just seemed so sad and pathetic, and I felt horrible for this fictional donkey from 150 years ago. I realized the only thing keeping me from feeling horrible about the animals I ate every day was not thinking about it, as soon as I would start thinking about it I would feel just as awful. My own hypocrisy was really getting to me so I just stopped eating meat.
