Recent purchases/orders, /lit/? I just ordered The Wild Geese by Ogai Mori for myself, as well as some Zola, Balzac, and Turgenev.

What have you bought recently?

Read TBK, halfway through Golden Bowl. Probably gonna do The Castle/Amerika after that. I feel intimidated by Ulysses so I might get Pale Fire, Gravity's Rainbow or Moby Dick out the library if they have any of them & then have a go at Ulysses or perhaps even another of Joyce's before.

Just ordered. I occasionally read random authors' books that never break into the classics/mainstream tiers.

Read Dubliners and/or Portrait ... first, seriously.
You'll appreciate Ulysses all the more.

Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert

I started last week but I haven't been able to read much because... it's kind of boring so far.

>> No.1284863

No need to qualify it with 'so far'. Just focus on the brilliant writing, the narrative isn't much fun.

Not the person being replied to, but if I was going to read one of them before Ulysses which would you recommend?

Well personally I read Portrait, Ulysses then Dubliners

Dubliners is a collection of shorts of his, so if you're totally uninitiated you may wish to start there, but if you feel up to it try Portrait.
Hope this helps.

I'm hoping it's as interesting as it sounds! A book by Carl Jung about the psychological significance of UFOs sounds pretty neat.
