“They say that life is an accident, driven by sexual desire, that the universe has no moral order, no truth, no God.

Driven by insatiable lusts, drunk on the arrogance of power, hypocritical, deluded, their actions foul with self-seeking, tormented by a vast anxiety that continues until their death, convinced that the gratification of desire is life's sole aim, bound by a hundred shackles of hope, enslaved by their greed, they squander their time dishonestly piling up mountains of wealth.

"Today I got this desire, and tomorrow I will get that one; all these riches are mine, and soon I will have even more. Already I have killed these enemies, and soon I will kill the rest. I am the lord, the enjoyer, successful, happy, and strong, noble, and rich, and famous. Who on earth is my equal?”

I'm telling you I'm as greedy as they come, mate. I walk into a grocery store and I want everything. I go into a bank, and I want all the money, you hear? How do I get greedier so I can finally have mountains of wealth? Please explain: poverty isn't edifying me anyway.

Interesting how applicable ancient musings are today. It's almost like we humans and our world change so much and yet not at all.

But then money would be worthless anyway. That would defeat the purpose of my greed.

>>12808353
So you're saying I'm greedy but I'm lazy. I need to be greedy and proactive. Alright, then. How do I be more proactive in my greed so I can finally leave poverty?

>not intentionally changing the landscape of value in order to transcend the definition of greed to have it mean whatever you want it to

It's almost like you don't even know how greed works. Greed is overrated, m8. Stop trying to be greedy and instead shoulder some meaningful responsibility like an person who actually deserves riches. I'm sure you'll find however, that riches are of less value that the manner in which you'd grow to shoulder such responsibility. Furthermore, I'm sure that you'd reason to yourself that the dissonance between the goal and the present don't leave much room for growth, and as a result you'll go on being lazy, thinking of yourself as artificially greedy. In accord with your reasoning, you won't do anything, and you'll die deprived of both virtue and monetary wealth. Unless...

Whoa, whoa, whoa, friend. Let's stop and retrace our steps. I asked how to get rich off my greed because, in the OP, it is implied that there are some who have "mountains of wealth" and are greedy. Evidently, my greed requires refinement or intensification, since I am greedy but am still woefully trapped in poverty. If it is not by greed that a man comes to wealth, then, damnit, I would like to hear it, but, thus far, I have only been told by posters in this thread that I am not greedy enough. I replied, in earnest, hoping to be better schooled in greed, so as to amass the fortune which I so desire.

Now you flare in to the thread, telling me that greed is overrated, and that I should stop trying to be greedy--this is the exact opposite of what I have heard thus far, both from the OP and from the subsequent replies. You tell me that responsibility is the girdle for me, and you may be right. But you should also mention it to the author of whoever originated the quote in the OP. I am still perplexed as to why, as you say, I do not understand greed, since I think I am, in fact, quite greedy and full of unpleasant, jealous, covetous thoughts about my neighbor and his possessions, but this, sadly, has not earned my a penny and I am quite in throes when people tell me conflate greed with riches--in fact, I'm not quite sure how to take it and find myself brought low by confusion.
