How did I get here?

Im here to fight for the anons I've held in my arms, dying on foreign image boards. Im here to fight for their wives and children, who's names I heard whispered in their last breaths. Im here to fight for we few who did come home, only to find our home full of strangers wearing familiar faces. I fight for my people impoverished to pay the debts of mass popularity making the mods too weak to rule them, yet brands us criminals for wanting to rule ourselves! Im here to fight so that all the fighting I've already done hasn't been for nothing. Im here... because I must be

When I was 8 years old I was slow in learning to read and write. There was a tall kid named Gordon in my class who used to get me to spell words out in front of the class or he'd pinch my arms and slap me in the face. He always wore a hockey jersey and would give me words that were difficult for a kid my age, let alone for me personally, like "category" or "duration." He got them from the science fiction books he read that his dad bought them. Eventually he made me suck his penis in the bathrooms. Now I read and write every day, and Gordon is dead.

always read a lot when i was little, douglas adams stephen king that sort of shit
stopped reading so much when i was like 15-16 started getting into computers and board culture more
occasionally wanted to read again, would read shit like a song of ice and fire when that show came out
knew about this board and looked here occasionally in early 2010s
eventually got really depressed was addicted to alcohol, gave that up for weed, and then started to take excessive amounts of psychedelics
realised how little i knew about anything
started reading entry level lit and philosophy, really liked it, switched from an IT teaching degree which i was failing to an arts degree in literature and philosophy
years later now on track to becoming an academic, i really just want to teach university level english literature or philosophy

basically psychedelics and a proclivity for reading and overthinking things

same except pokemon ruby when i was 5, how the fuck did baby retard me get far into this game? replaying it for the first time in 16 years there were parts where i genuinely got stuck trying to figure out how to progress

my only conscious memories of it are getting stuck on the may fight on the bridge of my first playthrough then rerolling to pick her starter (i think i ended up with blaziken), raising a graveller to level 70 because i couldnt figure out how to evolve it, getting angry that full heal wouldnt restore life points or revive, brute forcing my way through the elite four with groudon fire blast every single day on the ride to school, and getting stuck in the trick house with the turnstiles then deleting the save

I started with the Greeks while I was waiting tables. I started tackling those big philosophical conundrums while I was walking between the kitchen and event space. I would also employ the Socratic method when guests talked to me, and it worked pretty well, although, one time an old man offered to let me stay at his place. I'm a male. That was my first introduction to the notion that Greeks were associated with faggotry.

Watched more television and films than i can remember then one day the medium didn't interested me as much so i picked up reading as a pastime . Had trouble in the beginning with focus and sub vocalization but got through it and haven't looked back.

Movies, comics and games became infested by mentally ill people on a quest to make their bad life choices look like a normal, not failed existence like OPs pic.
My mission is to find good stories that haven't already been subverted into shells of their former selfs.

I grew up around books. Both my parents were upper middle class with a (relatively) high level of education in the liberal arts.
My mom, either intentionally or accidentally, was very smart in making some of my first picture books children's introductions to mythology.
This sounded really douchey to type out but it's true.

I got terminally depressed, planned an assassination, and went completely psychotic. Having gone psychotic I had a series of harbinger dreams that I became obsessed with. I dropped the assassination plot and started studying everything I could about the occult, which required further studies of classical literature and etc. Eventually I had read over 200 books, which is not actually a lot, but oh well. But as I started to stabilize it became less interesting so I stopped.

My grandma used to read to me every night and I was a little bastard and would keep asking her to read more, deep into the night till like 2AM. Dad never really read many books besides John Grisham and my mom just read the Bible.

All that reading from my grandma helped me learn to read really early, before I went to kindergarten at least. I read a bunch of the red wall books in elementary, and then preteen-16 didn’t read much.

Fell in love with Olivia Hussey in freshman English watching Romeo and Juliet, so I actually read the play and found I liked it once I was able to parse the language more quickly, read a couple more Shakespeare plays, Macbeth was my fav for a long time till Hamlet and Lear. Read the Great Gatsby sophomore or junior year and decided I wanted to be a writer, read the rest of Fitzgerald, some Steinbeck, and Hemingway. I went to college as an undeclared major, read some Dosto, Tolstoy, Pynchon, declared English as my major, read Tolstoy again, Chekhov, Maupassant, Flaubert, Márquez and Borges, Kafka, Joyce, more Tolstoy, Turgenev, Salinger, then started reading philosophy, mainly the Greeks + stoics, a lot of Plato, now in the present I’m reading a lot Herman Melville because he is the literary figure I most admire, considering doing my senior thesis on one of his books maybe.

Thanks grandma, and the English teachers who told me I should be a writer even though I was garbage.
