Gormenghast is only difficult in that it's wordy and long
BotNS is only difficult in that it doesn't explain anything until the final few chapters and you have to pay attention to the first chapters to catch some of the subtleties

Dhalgren, however, is a total mindfuck that I'm not even sure is supposed to make sense. It's a wild ride, and such a beautiful read that I even forgive the author's degeneracy, but not even critics know what the fuck it's about.
