Malcolm X was basically an IRL shitposter for most of his life and didn't really do anything concrete to further the civil rights movement. Good book though.

He preached black exclusionism. His dream was to see, essentially, a reservation for black people created by black people. He advocated for a black-only economy in order for the American black population to self-actualize in an economic sense.

As it turns out, ethnocentrism doesn't do much to ingratiate yourself with the neighbors, regardless of the race involved. Most black people were and still are more interested in pursuing normal relationships with those around them and living as a part of a multiracial society. The only people Malcolm could find who were 100% down with a black only space were the Nation of Islam dudes, whose outright and unapologetic racism permanently damaged his own credibility.

The punchline of the whole story is that Malcolm recanted much of his exclusionary philosophy after a trip to Mecca and seeing a multiethnic conglomeration of Muslims behaving like brothers. He specifically mentions a moment when he and his cohorts kicked a white lady out of a protest and regrets that they did so, because allies are important.

Malcolm's brush with sanity irked his Nation of Islam bros and they murdered the shit out of him. *ba dum tish*

Additionally the Nation of Islams leaders were malpracticing their beliefs and Malcolm had knowledge of this, hence he had to be eliminated
Growing up in the KKK era and finding your father on a rail track, cut in two, does push a person towards more radical ideologies
Its well and truly important to point out that Malcolm may be the last prominent figure in history to admit he was wrong, something not seen in current times from any side of the political spectrum, and he should be revered for that

He's one of those people that read the dictionary so they can find big words to use in order to appear smart.
