Partially. Its about the historical life of the South. The compsons are a dilapidated family from the old Southern aristocracy who have lost all their money, and now, unsure of their societal role, they have to pay servants who used to be their slaves in order to keep up the appearance of wealth.
Very surface level reading, but that's a big part of it.
