I still have some faith that I will be able to read the Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell sequel and Perhaps the Stars before everyone gets off the fucking boat in Hunter x Hunter (aka Hiatus x Hiatus) or something actually happens in Berserk.

But it is quite ironic, is it not? That Susanna Clarke has so many characters face fatigue and also experiences it herself. The real enemy was the chronic fatigue we faced along the way.

The content creator who is the worst off and whose stuff I also am following is Katsura Hoshino who has arthritis and obviously this being a degenerative disease without a cure means that her series is basically fucked.

On the brighter side, assuming that this fatigue and chronic pain shit doesn't turn out to be cancer, we'll probably get those books eventually. With Clarke, at least, she released the Ladies of Grace Adieu anthology which goes some way towards mitigating the wait. With the JSaMN sequel apparently it isn't going to follow the same set of characters anyway. And Palmer, if I recall correctly, is one of those plotter types so hopefully it isn't totally fucked.

I've only read one series which ended on a cliffhanger because Asimov died before he could finish it -- the Foundation series -- and I am still very unhappy about not being able to read the ending...

Bad use of in medias res style, is mostly a set up for future books;the first book should never be the setup book, much of it doesn't make sense, the "plot" and it's generous to even call it a plot is badly structured and the prose is sub par compared to the sequels.

Because of this he thinks it's his destiny to become strong and does the stupid shit all the time. I'll five you an example. In the second book he's three levels behind everyone else (he's a copper and everyone else is gold) and at one point gets captured as a mining slave. The rest of the miners are golds. He manages to get out because he recently endeared himself to someone powerful. After this he comes up with a plan to steal something from the mine and it's only him and his gold friend. They get caught and he's surprised because he assumed he was smarter than everyone else. The way his character is written is also insufferable.

I don’t really know what /sffg/‘s consensus is on Elric of Melnibone, but I’ve noticed that GRRM seems to have based a bunch of Valyrian lore off of Elric and the Melniboneans. I’m halfway through Fortress if the Pearl right now, and the entire beginning sequence of it is essentially the Qarth plotline of Daenerys.

Quarzhasaat. Qarth. Both are ruled by an oligarchic council and are in the middle of a barren desert. I’ve heard that the author of The Witcher gets called out for the similarities between Geralt and Elric, but I’ve never heard anyone rip on GRRM for this. Should I expect more of this as I continue through the Elric series?

Almost a dozen chapters into this and it might be better than Karl Edward Wagner's Conan pastiche. Feels closer to a typical REH Conan story (with the same constant forward momentum). Even though I enjoyed KEW's Road of Kings it still reads like a Conan story written by KEW whereas Hocking's Emerald Lotus almost reads like a long lost REH story.

Do you think you can get away with writing a real story that still has ecchi elements? I thought about it today and I think I cringed way more during gratuitous rape/killing scenes than anything to do with plain sexualized characters. In general I feel that even when I hear from female friends, they react worse to women just randomly getting raped for no reason than to characters being sexy. The title story was great. So was "The Tower Of Babylon". "Understand" was good execution of a somewhat cliche conceit. "Seventy-Two Letters" was pretty good but Chiang didn't seem to notice that he was literally describing DNA.

The rest of them, yeah, meh. It would be totally excusable if he didn't spend about a year writing each story.

The Eternal Champion sequence it's just the Elric,Erekose,Corum and Dorian Hawkmoon books, the erekose series being the beginning and the Hawkmoon books being the end.

Not saying is a carbon copy,but it's definitely inspired,Kain is very similar to elric,not just the looks but him wanting to change the order of things in the same way elric wanted to use chaos to destroy chaos,kain realizing that he is just a pawn of fate etc
Raziel has more similarities to the overall cocept of the eternal champion but mainly to erekose,like both raziel and erekose suffer fro hundreds of years in the abyss after being betrayed and how the die in the end,raziel becomes the soul reaver so Kain can fight the elder gods and free humanity and erekose dies so he can give power to the Runestaff so that Dorian Hawkmoon can destroy the cosmic balance and free humanity.
Also Eidos wanted to do an Elric videogame but at the time Universal Pictures had the rights to Elric so instead they made blood omen 2

Just finished Prelude to Foundation. I couldn't stand it. It was stupid tacky sci-fi cliches, characters giving long winded explanations for things that could be easily implied, and really insufferable characters (Dors just easily picking up knives. Seems like bad fanficiton).

I expected something about dyson spheres and shit like that, for some reason. Does the rest of the series get better?
