So a few weeks ago, we had a thread about trying to find a definition for art. Here's my take:
>Something created by a human with the purpose of eliciting an emotional response. That something must possess complexity an order of magnitude above mundane communication means, and that complexity is often, though not necessarily, self-evident.
The second part, I think, reunits the expression with the technē, and explains why the whole "muh modern art is not art" is a thing: where previous art was obviously complex on a craftmanship level, modern art is often simple in its execution ("a child could have done that-syndrom"), but its complexity is conceptual. It is far more spontaneous to be impressed and interested in a piece that is obviously something one could not have done.
