So, hi /lit/ - it's my first time here. But enough about that.

Recently, I bought "Night Shift" by Stephen King, and earlier today I got around to "The Lawnmower Man."

Now, I've read his Dark Tower series, and know how he usually handles this kind of stuff, but this short story wasn't his best, (definitely not his worst, anyway), it just sort of left me with a feeling of dissatisfaction... almost like something should have happened, but it didn't.

tl;dr Stephen King General

I've never read anything of his(not to completion anyway; I tried reading some book of his and, after five pages describing the front yard of some place, I gave up), but I watched "Sometimes They Come Back" today.

It was alright. I enjoyed it.

I read the first Dark Tower book and enjoyed it well enough, but never got around to reading any of the others.

Truly I am a lazy slob.

Yeah, sometimes King has a habit of focusing on one thing for too long.

I'd say a good place to start with his work would be "Everything's Eventual." Specifically, "Lunch at the Gotham Cafe" does a good job of summing up how well he can change a regular setting into the scene of a horror movie.

The second and third books get progressively better, if it's any incentive.

Oh, and it's rumored King will be writing a new, eighth book in the series.

N., The Mist and I am the Doorway are some of the better short stories out there.

I also enjoyed most of his novels. The Stand was genius and deserves a very good movie to be made out of it.

I'm not a fan of audiobooks. I feel too disconnected from the story.

Maybe he'll make it back into my to-read pile, I dunno.

I agree that TLM was not his best short story. Want to read his best, tightest piece of writing, ever?

The Jaunt. It's a short story. I'm sure it's somewhere on the Internet as well. It is delightfully spine tingling.

I'll look into it.

A good rule of thumb with King - if the story is about an everyday object that has become murderous/cursed/the object of a cult, avoid it. They're fucking stupid. This includes Christine.

Gotta agree that TLM was completely ridiculous.

"The Jaunt" was awesome. Possibly my favorite short story of his. I also really liked "The Ten O'Clock People."
