Are there any books that explain this whole Western modern social movement we're living within right now that's trying to illegalize certain emotional states like anger and hate? Like I don't understand at all the origins, motivations, or goals of this movement and I'd like to know more. It seems so absurd to me that the Left nowadays is so focused on eliminating natural emotional states (as if that could ever be achieved).

Unironically brave new world and 1984

I don't think either of those are really feasible scenarios, those societies would descend into memetic violence. Does the Left not understand this?

I was unaware that such a movement existed.

The whole rallying cry of the left is to "fight hate". This is just what I pulled from the first page of Google.

It's pretty all-encompassing too, the couple of big corporations I've worked for were all about "fighting hate", my college was always pushing it, I always see commercials about it on TV with big name actors and actresses. It just seems very odd to me because obviously these people all still "hate" things. And how could you possible love something if you don't hate something as well? To love everything equally is devalue love into something lowly and meaningless. I want to know the origin/genealogy of this line of thinking, it's very odd.

They use hate as a buzzword but they don't really want to abolish hate itself, just hate directed at people they believe to not deserve it. Progressives still basically say you should hate Trump or racists though, and agree with pretty much everyone that you should hate criminals, pedophiles etc. Just take one look at progressive politics and you will see it's far from being free of hate and anger. The public in America regardless of political alignement is more hateful and angry than ever.

The only people who really think that hate and anger of all kinds is bad are hardcore hippies or Christian fundamentalist. Not the Westboro Babtist types but ones who really took the message of Jesus seriously, love your enemies, turn the other cheek and so on.

So, to answer your original question: where does this idea comes from that hate and anger should be done away with? From Christianity. Even one of the Catholic seven deadly sins was wroth.
