Is Addie Bundren, pound for pound, the biggest bitch in literature? She gets like two pages from her perspective and is absolutely vile. She actively and purposefully destroys her family from beyond the grave for no reason. Hell, even “muh Jewel” loses his horse and is probably scarred for life now.

Anse yeah, but the kids deserved better. Cash is hardworking and level-headed. Jewel is just angry and sensitive. Darl is a little creepy, but he was ok until he went crazy due to his dad’s asinine stunts egged on by his mother. Dewey Dell was understandably panicked by her pregnancy and actually seemed pretty nurturing to her little brother. The youngest had some issues, but I chalk that up to him being too young for this shit. Besides, Addie was getting off on whipping school kids before she even got married.
