>In the end, it was just a story about the Old man and the Sea. But maybe... just maybe... the real old man and the sea is in our hearts?

Seriously? That was the biggest waste of time I've ever spent on a book.

I didn’t like Hemingway at first but after rereads he has really grown on me. I’ve read Old Man and the Sea at least 3 times and The Sun Also Rises 4 times, A Farewell to Arms and For Whom the Bell Tolls are also great novels.

I think he takes some age to really understand

the old man is an artist struggling to continue his art in his old age. in his old age he's an expert fisherman but is in a rut. the marlin is a new canvas and opportunity.

i think the genius of hemingway is his accessibility. the stories are simple enough so young readers can be entertained. and older readers can get the implicit messages from hemingway's characters giving a small gesture.

Even in high school I thought he was invigorating to read. Everything he wrote was supremely masculine in a way that really resonated with me

I was very unimpressed with The Sun Also Rises. I got it and all... I just didn't like it. I thought the main character's masochism was ridiculous.

I'm going to read For Whom the Bell Tolls soon. Hopefully it's better.
