I've decided to embrace stoicism, /lit/
What are some required readings?
I've already read Marcus Aurelius' Meditations

>> No.12617789

Epictetus, Seneca

>> No.12617797

Epictetus is good.
Although you should know about virtue ethics in generally so I advice you to read the nichomachean ethics.

Freedom and Determinism in Stoic philosophy by Bobzien so you know that despite subordinating metaphysics to ethics, the metaphysics still flows down to the ethics and a commitment to stoicism is a commitment to a certain ontology you would likely find unpalatable in any other circumstance.

Epictetus, Seneca as others have said. You could also read some Cynic philosophy, The Cynic Philosophers: From Diogenes to Julian is a good book that also mention several stoics and their relationship.

Generally any decent book on philosophy will come with a big list of further reading, pick something that sounds interesting there.

Montaigne was heavily influenced by stoic thinkers from antiquity.

The Discourses of Epictetus
Seneca has plenty of books. In some instances, his Stoicism is "softer" but he is still interesting.
You should read some Plato to have a better understanding of the virtues.
