What to do /lit/ if most books seem to be pretensious as shit and same goes for music.
I feel like everyone is trying to be deep so they are asking 'deep' questions but there is nothing deep only shallowness.

Stop reading books, retard. Just jump off a bridge.

Could you provide an example of deepness masquerading as shallowness? Could you provide an example of something with genuine depthP

Pretension is an attempt at sounding profound or intelligent, without any true profound qualities or insight present, a facade in other words. If you think something is pretentious when it really is intelligent and insightful, then you are reacting negatively because it makes you feel bad when you don't understand it, not due to any fault of the text.

Just read something that really is profound, like the Bible or Thomas Hobbes or Nietzsche.

Do you know the name of any books that are actually pretentious?
I bet that'd be fun to read.

There's a 90% chance you're just a pleb, but 'depth' is a bit of a meme word that doesn't really mean anything unless we are actually discussing caves. Atlas Shrugged discusses philosophy but it's still a shit novel, The Long Goodbye is almost pure plot but still a masterpiece

Okay got it you cant prove if something is deep or not objectively. But what about subjectively feeling of depth and profoundness of something? Dont mind me asking retarded questions i am just trying to move conversation and learn smth new

I don't want you to prove anything objectively, in fact I would like to know what exactly YOU consider pretentious and what YOU consider profound.

i thing ive got this problem with modern art.
I feel like nowadays everything can be called art with right background. Dont u think that art should be self explanatory if you think aobut it long enough? And if everything might be art then what is art is it the matter of decription?

>> No.12591593

The main purpose of fiction is to entertain, if it doesn't fulfil that requirement, the work is most likely shit.
Non-fiction (philosophy) is supposed to educate and enlighten you, so entertainment is a secondary concern.
In short, depends on the book; there are plenty of guilty pleasures which may not necessarily have much depth but are fun as hell to read.

Everyone considers themselves as an "artist" or a creative type, even if what they do doesn't require much ingenuity.

for books "The Conspiracy Against the Human Race" . I guess this feeling from my guts is caused because he is saying things that are obvious i mean life is temporary so it literally doesnt matter and u can not be more obvious and on the other hand there is albert camus who in "the plague" is not saying smth obvious like that he is saying he knows it but that it is not a reason to give up.
And that was a profound though. Nothing obvious that everyone knows.

this is literally the most shallow and unreflective post on /lit/ right now, congrats

It wasn't meant to be deep. When someone is asking you for your opinion you are telling them being shallow and unreflective?
