12591102 No.12591102 [Reply] [Original]

Hey guys, so I met a girl recently and she is my first girlfriend. I am 28 and she is 21, and has pretty much told me that she wants to be a traditional female partner (future wife perhaps).

The thing is she isn't well educated, didn't really study in school etc and her frame of reference doesn't extend far beyond popular culture. However, she keeps asking me to introduce her to new music, ideas, movies and books, and I can tell that in some ways she is trying to become a kind of idealized feminine symbol.

What that in mind, can anyone recommend some books which portrays female virtue and traditional womanhood in a way that isn't too academic or dense?

Anything to do with being humble, gracious, shy, nurturing, tender, submissive etc would be great.

If this isn't bait, I'd be interested in hearing how you found such a woman. I go to a traditional Church where there is a girl similar to your picture related. However, I'm not really part of the community since I don't live in the same town. I don't want to go up to a girl randomly after mass, but it also hurts to see a possible opportunity slip between my fingers. There is such a divine beauty, no matter what her sins may or may not be, in seeing a girl praying with her veil on before mass, or seeing her with her hands together, walking back with her head lowered after receiving the Eucharist. Maybe she is not as my idealism makes her out to be, but I am not exactly ideal myself.

There is nothing really wrong with that. Sure from 15 to 22 there is a quite big diference in the mentality but once you reach "adult" age, the age number stops being such a big deal because there is already a certain maturity to both partners.
You sound like you projecting a bit when trying to pin down OP as a some insecure male. I've seen people with 21 years of age more "mature" than a 30 year old brazilian.
In general, most women prefer to date man that are older than them and that are of either equal or greater "social status".

All traditional religion is based on revelation. Personal experience is the evidence. Formal proofs may be nice, but the core of religious experience has always depended on the individual practitioner. If you do not knock, it will not be opened. If you actively shun spirituality from your life, it is unlikely that you will find it. The more you explore your own consciousness through prayer/meditation, the more you will find out about the world, regardless of what you believe currently.
That being said, I don't think I know it all, and by no means am I a theologian. Rather, it just needs to be said since so many people have fallen into the trap of trying to justify religion by the very same things it goes beyond. Trying to justify God's existence based on some set of logical proofs may or may not be coherent, I'm not sure, but it completely misses the point.

If you put Islam, and this is especially egregious, Hinduism on the same plain as Christianity you are not familiar enough with the religion of your forefathers or the reasons religion exists. It is one of the most important things that brings together societies, and dismissing it out of a sense of "enlightenment" is actually extinguishing the lodestar of our social health. The secular movement, like many other movements did not consider the consequences of their actions, and focused heavily on the faults inherent in all human endeavors, instead of seeking to understand the importance of religion and the properties that promote communal activities and bonds. These rituals are non-existent in atheism, and as such it can never be a "community". (the same applies to other dysfunctional and inorganic "communities" such as LGBT+ and "white" people)

Right, I understand and agree with the function of religion but for people like me, attending church would be a major cognitive dissonance considering that there's no evidence for what's being preached. You shouldn't use the term "Judeo-Christian", that's like a misanthropic humanist, it's a contradiction. There are great secular reasons for the things you mentioned. And Christianity delivers many, why do you say there is no "evidence" for what is being preached? Our unhappy and immoral society supports the claims of Christianity. No, I agree with what it stands for and agree more with religious values than secular ones. Well most intelligent people who follow religion don't just proclaim the authority of God. They aren't mutually exclusive. Many important scientists were also religious leaders. I don't really know what you want to hear. Try attending church. You say it would cause cognitive dissonance, but I would still attend church with my family even if I didn't believe because they believe and we are a family and their beliefs are important. I don't see the dissonance. Maybe integrating yourself with a community or family will help your spirit recognize God. My family isn't Christian. Nobody has been religious for at least three generations from what I know. The reason I would attend is admiration and because my values mesh well with theirs. I just hope one day for a alternative based on facts that nobody can argue against.

Well that probably will never happen. Although there is ample evidence to suggest small scale communal living is healthier than the lives of cosmopolitan vagrants. data can't do that, it can only show that a certain behavior tends to have certain consequences on average. Consequentialism is not virtue ethics.

> I just don't get believing in the supernatural in order to fulfill those values when science can do just fine.

You don't realize that by nature the findings of science are conditional and always liable to be reviser or even outright contradicted. This is basically what the philosopher call the access problem, and it' the problematic crux of science.

Although a mesue of pragmatism is always necessary, following "science" the way you seem to want to do will only led you to adopt and forego every single new scientific fad as it appears. You need to be able to decide by yourself beyond that, and you need to understand how science works a little better.

>based on facts that nobody can argue against

There is your weakness. You want somebody ("scientists") to do the heavy lifting for you. But even the greatest scientists were often beset by moral and spiritual crises, even the atheistic ones. You could argue, paraphrasing Bernanos, that only a very great sientist, or a very mediocre one, can live with their conscience in peace.

Convictions and opinion can always be argued against. Facts can also be argued against, because they are statement constituted as results of cognitive procedures that are never fool proof and whose relevance and/or accuracy can always be doubted.

If you tell me you know for a fact marriage is better than celibacy I'll ask for a study, if you show me the study I'll find a potential flaw in it, and I probably won't even have to be dishonest. You should start by accepting this now, it will be of great help whether you end up religious or not.

friendly reminder to all the Christians in here that loving others is most important of all, and that your religion is meaningless if you're not loving others as much as an irreligious person next to you is. your virtue is the only thing that speaks for you, the institutions you subscribe to are meaningless beyond organized formalities. if you are truly a spiritual soul, you'll love everyone without division, not seeing things in terms of catholicism, protestantism, orthoism, hinduism, buddhism, etc, and just simply love everyone. there is too much suffering in this world. you must not add any to it. be kind to everyone you see. spend less time in divisions and more times in unities. do not add any suffering to this world. love everyone. be everyone's friend, without distinction. no point in throwing around speeches about God and Holiness and Divinity if these realities are not found in your behaviors towards others, you're just speaking about exalted things which have no real relation to your essence as a person. love everyone and make everyone's life here easier

>> No.12597953

This was why they didn't allow brainlets to read the Bible in the middle ages. Jesus is directly quoting a pslam when he says why have you forsaken me. It was common practice among his people to reference a psalm by its first sentence, instead of having to say all of it out loud. By saying that phrase he is so too saying everything else that psalm says, not just the first sentence, which in no way shape or form means that Jesus lacked faith in the divine during the Crucifixion. Your theology is based on modern translations without any context, if such poor provocations can be even called theology.

>>12597420
The first commandment is to love God before all things. I don't deny that it is important to love others, but if you do not recognize the divine in everyone, focusing so much on human love quickly becomes mere vanity. What is considered love in Catholicism isn't the love reinforced by secular complacency anyways.

Jesus Christ took upon himself the yoke all of humanities sin when he was crucified. That is deserving of everlasting love. Either way, one should not love things simply based on their frailty. One should love things, and therefore be attracted to them, proportionally to their spiritual good. God is the highest spiritual good. I love a person because he is made in the image of God, he who is all good. Any of his personal sufferings are of course of importance, but suffering is temporal, not eternal.
I think you are confusing secular love with religious love. They are not the same except on the surface level. I don't love God in the same way I love my mother or father.
