Well i'm an editor for a shitty web start up publishing company.
so i'd say i'm at least.... .01% of the way there. Better than most at least!

>> No.12581111

I've only been shitting out little snippets lately, the drive to sit down and churn out anything of length has gone. Lately I have a lot of worldly problems like money and stress, and somehow it makes me feel ashamed? I can't quite explain it.

God these hot quads going for me though, maybe things are perking up

Working on a book of short stories and hoping to self-publish it. I took a creative writing class this semester and the workshop portions have been variously gay and helpful. There's this one smelly autist obsessed with sci-fi and fantasy who always rips apart mine and my classmates' stories, but is extremely sensitive about criticism of his own work.

Slowly and steadily. I feel like I'm chasing half a dozen rabbits. Trying to synthesize my overall impression of the modern world into an effective, coherent, and disturbing novel.

it hasn't started and probably never will, at the moment I write for myself

I'm writing a long narrative poem right now. Not sure what I'll do with it when I'm done with it.

I've had four poems published within the last 14 months or so, although three of them were with the same journal. I wonder if I have a future as a poet.

A career in writing?

No, I won't be doing that, but expressing my thoughts to better understand myself and the world around me? Yes. If I can make money from this, then that would be lovely, but I don't see how I could turn my desire to write what swims in my head into an hourly wage, day after day. I think I would just get miserable for it.

I'll check em for ya. You've been blessed by quads and double dubs. Don't waste it, Anon.

Kinda okay. A piece I wrote last year got published in an online litmag, got longlisted for a contest, and then was a finalist in a category for another.

Never intended to make money from writing, but I'm glad something I care about got a little attention. Now, to focus on the next piece

How's yours coming along, OP?

I’m getting the odd non-embarrassing piece of writing out there.

Where do you submit longer short stories for publication? Every magazine/journal I check has a max limit of like 3000 - 5000 words.

i remember the sly thread you made a couple weeks ago trying to promote your article but then it derailed and went nuts iirc. sneaky but it's a nice article though, i think i liked it.

on a side note, aren't you afraid of the association with 4chan?

Where do you find magazines and journals that take submissions in the first place?

They exist in most major cities. Often heavily subsidised by arts councils and other donors. Most open submission writing is for competitions.

I write for a magazine. As much as I love it, it's infrequent, and I wish I could do more professional writing. I have two longer "novels" I'm working on, besides that I write little snippets any day I can come up with something. I'm not sure I'm ever gonna complete and try to publish the longer works though. One I started more than two years ago, I felt I drifted from the subject and my writing has changed since then. The other takes inspiration from a local Pen&Paper so I'd have to rewrite and come up with my own world if I were to put it out.
