Is Dune actually good and worth reading or are people trolling?

>> No.12571098

It's pretty good. Although the comparison isn't necessarily fair, people call it the Lord of the Rings of sci-fi.

>> No.12571105

good book

>> No.12571311

I'm reading it right now, gotta say its bretty good.

it's very good even if you're not familiar or especially attracted towards sci-fi

>> No.12572024

Excellent. The first book is self-contained, but to have a fuller story I suggest you read the sequels until God-Emperor of Dune.

2-nd question
is the three-body problem worth reading?

Oh very interesting. Maybe I'll read it now, given I have no real affinity for high sci-fi.

What about the book do you think makes it appeal to people like you suggest?

I think the Frank Herbert Dune books are all worth reading at least once, don't even think about reading any of the Brian Herbert/Kevin J. Anderson ones, they are some of the worst prequels and sequels in all of Science Fiction.

>> No.12573876

I think a lot of people like the idea of dune, but the actual books are meh to okay tier.
The world building is the most interesting part. Especially all the wacky future religions

The first book is amazing, the quality decreases with each book after it though, but the Frank Herbert ones are all worth reading.

>> No.12575310

Didn't straight up love the book, but I will say that the smug fat gay pedophile villain made it fun enough I don't regret reading it.

It's not good, yet people are not trolling. That's because they have shit taste. It might be worth reading if you have shit taste too, or have good taste and want to see why it is not good.

>>12573210
As someone who has no affinity for sci-fi either, I'd sooner recommend PK Dick or Stanislaw Lem than Herbert.

>> No.12575449

Real sci-fi fans would read Michael Crichton. You're all frauds.

i was really into it when i was 12/13. just flicked through now and laughed at it

>> No.12575506

idk if it has """"""literary merit"""""" but the first book is very enjoyable. I regret even trying to read the second it's pretty shit. Maybe other ones get closer to the original but I'll probably never try.

Gert derm oblurble

>> No.12576400

Very much worth reading. There aren't many political thrillers on this level. The science fiction actually takes a bit of a backseat, and there's definite fantasy and historical fiction aspects, which make it very unique.
Definitely not a simple space opera thing.
