Why does /lit/ hate victorian literature so much? Especially the works of the bronte sisters and Jane Austen?

Actually, why does /lit/ hate women writers in general? The only woman /lit/ respects are Flann O' Connor and George Eliot.

This, Austen was very popular during the Victorian Period but she actually predates it, she was writing at the same time the Romantic poets were.

If I had two buttons in front of me, and one of them would allow me to delete /pol/, and the other one allowed me to delete /r9k/, and I could only press one of them, I'm honestly not sure which one I would pick.

Wuthering Heights is way better than Jane Eyre, but I haven’t read any of Anne’s books yet.

Austen is only readable if you want to take in the consideration historical aspects. Anything else about her is pure depraved marry barry shit.

Because most /lit/izens don't have the cognitive framework necessary to read something as masterfully engineered as Portrait of a Lady. Seriously, no one ever wants to discuss the english novel, and when they do it's literally just to talk about how boring it is. These are also probably the people who start with (and then never move on from) the greeks, thinking they're cultured and well-read when really they've fallen at the first hurdle.

Even worse, there just isn't enough pseud cred to make reading Victorian literature worthwhile. With the Russians, Greeks, postmodernist tomes, you can wallow in feeling superior, and secretly hope people see what you're reading and be impressed and intimidated, and possibly even attracted. You can't really do that with Jane Eyre
