It never occurred to me that Indians were unwanted before I found out through the internet. I think it's attitude before anything. If Pakistani guys don't have the same problem why Indian guys? You're both the same people, just different cultures. It makes me question if Hinduism emphasizes meekness compared to Islam, which attracts the violent and depraved. Maybe some lit could shed the light on this.

I do not praise it out of nationalism. I’m just a rootless white American who wants to get as broad a view as possible of the different sorts of beauty realizable in the world’s literatures. There are a few things that make the structure of Sanskrit cool.

First of all, almost every word in the language (and, according to the traditional grammarians, every word without exception) can be derived from a set of a few hundred verbal roots called dhātavah (singular dhātu). For instance, there is an enormous cluster of ideas all spawned from the root yuj, meaning “join” (cognate with our word “yoke”). The word yoga is derived from it (by a metaphor of “putting things together in the mind”), and also yukti, meaning a plot or stratagem, and yojanam, which is a measure of distance based on how far one goes in plowing a field without unyoking the oxen. So there is a certain philosophy encoded in the language itself: that everything in the world can be derived from a set of fundamental actions.

The grammar of the language is also rigorously structured, with approximately twice as many inflections as Latin. This minimizes the need for the ungainlier aspects of a language, such as prepositions and circumlocutory phrases.

The Sanskrit tradition is very aware of the merits of the language, to such an extent that certain schools of philosophy believed that the surest way to God was in the enjoyment of sonorous speech. I can’t help but be charmed by such conceptions. And Sanskrit is, I think, on the level of phonology also very sonorous once one gets past how different it sounds from European languages. The Sanskrit alphabet (or syllabary depending on your perspective) itself represents a sort of primitive IPA.

And finally, the body of work in Sanskrit is far more diverse even than that of Latin: it was India’s Greek, Latin and Hebrew all at once, and then some. It ensures access to an immense diversity of thought and art, all of which will be different from what you know.

I just wonder if I'm wasting my time by even trying to groom (not literally, but in my character as a whole) myself enough to get a girlfriend in the future, and that maybe I'm "just not meant for it". However, I've had a couple of girls like me and I'm sure you've had some who like you too but you don't know it.

Perhaps I should try to put myself out there more, and by doing so, would see more success akin to what you yourself have experienced. I don't know, I'm just a bit dejected is all. I just want a sweetheart girlfriend whose neck I can lay my head against at night, feeling safe with, and the solace of knowing myself to be dearly loved by. For me to be able to hug and hold her so sincerely after she and I have returned home from work, and not be judged for my need to have her beside me. To spend the evening on our bed, listening to lovely, peaceful music, while holding hands. For her to sing us soft lullabies once the lights are off, as we then drift into sleep. These are just a few of my stupid, unattainable fantasies.

The White Tiger falls prey to “inauthenticity”: Adiga – a well-read Indian author who writes in English, having been educated at Oxford and Columbia – errs on the side of an unconvincing colloquialism by making his characters speak a language of the Indian underground, which he himself masters only to a certain extent.
The novel is best described as a novel about “the Darkness” (which reminds us of Dickens’s London) and a fascinating success story about the overnight rise of one character from rags to riches, but also about India’s development as a global market economy. In this there is a certain artificiality, cleverly masked by irony, and remarks the “‘cardboard cut-out’ title character equipped with an inauthentic voice that ultimately undermines issues of class politics”.

How is one to acquire knowledge? How is one to attain liberation? And how is one to reach dispassion? Tell me this, sir. 1.1
Ashtavakra said:

If you are seeking liberation, my son, avoid the objects of the senses like poison and cultivate tolerance, sincerity, compassion, contentment, and truthfulness as the antidote. 1.2

You do not consist of any of the elements — earth, water, fire, air, or even ether. To be liberated, know yourself as consisting of consciousness, the witness of these. 1.3

If only you will remain resting in consciousness, seeing yourself as distinct from the body, then even now you will become happy, peaceful and free from bonds. 1.4

You do not belong to the brahmin or any other caste, you are not at any stage, nor are you anything that the eye can see. You are unattached and formless, the witness of everything — so be happy. 1.5

Righteousness and unrighteousness, pleasure and pain are purely of the mind and are no concern of yours. You are neither the doer nor the reaper of the consequences, so you are always free. 1.6

You are the one witness of everything and are always completely free. The cause of your bondage is that you see the witness as something other than this. 1.7

Since you have been bitten by the black snake, the opinion about yourself that “I am the doer,” drink the antidote of faith in the fact that “I am not the doer,” and be happy. 1.8

Burn down the forest of ignorance with the fire of the understanding that “I am the one pure awareness,” and be happy and free from distress. 1.9

That in which all this — imagined like the snake in a rope — appears: that joy, supreme joy, and awareness is what you are, so be happy. 1.10

If one thinks of oneself as free, one is free, and if one thinks of oneself as bound, one is bound. Here this saying is true, “Thinking makes it so.” 1.11

Your real nature is as the one perfect, free, and actionless consciousness, the all-pervading witness — unattached to anything, desireless and at peace. It is from illusion that you seem to be involved in samsara. 1.12

Meditate on yourself as motionless awareness, free from any dualism, giving up the mistaken idea that you are just a derivative consciousness or anything external or internal. 1.13

You have long been trapped in the snare of identification with the body. Sever it with the knife of knowledge that “I am awareness,” and be happy, my son. 1.14

>more beautifully structured
read Greek, senpai?
Sanskrit does generally speaking have a more lush (sensuous) vocabulary, but this has little to do with structure. How then structurally speaking is Sanskrit superior? I'm curious.

What previous eras of Muslims and Brits have done to the culture is terrible. But anyone who spreads violence and vitriol in modern times because of past actions, has only made themselves part of the problem. India does need to preserve its culture better, and I wish it would take the measures to do so. I wish it would abandon secularism and recognize itself to be the only nation of the world where its own culture can be found, and officially become a Hindu or Dharmic nation. I wish predatory missionaries would no longer be allowed to enter the country. I wish many other things. All that said, there should be absolutely no hatred or harm done to Muslims or Christians or other parties in India, unlike what Hindutva can be presently found to be doing. Modern Muslims or Christians in India are not responsible for their ancestors actions, and neither are the British, living overseas in their own land. Anyone who spreads division, vitriol, and violence towards these or other groups in the present day, regardless of cause, is in the wrong and needs to be stopped. Hindutva happens to fit that bill, at present. It's also irritating seeing their comments online, and how stupid and closed-minded they make Indians look as a whole.

Indian girls date white guys, but they marry Indians. Same for other Asians.

I grew up in Virginia and now I'm going to grad school in a fairly big school in the Midwest. I have had similar experiences in both places, as well as most of the places I've traveled to. Though you might have something there since generally I tend to build up better rapport with girls from California and the east coast.

You're so lucky. Does she hold you, and kiss you on the cheek? Does she speak softly to you?

Posting Pakistani literature, because Pakistan is still India whether they like it, or not.

Pretty sure their "literature" has a similar level of appeal to Western audiences as their films and music so pretty much none.
