Not that. Your brain is as small as that book is big.

Subversive trash written by KPD degenerate and Wehrmacht traitor Arno Schmidt. Popularized to undermine German culture and morality.
Pseuds like it because "it's a big book".

i agree that desensitization is pretty much the point

bolano creates a rhythm in which the reader is exposed to an overwhelming amount of brutally clinical crime scene descriptions that are buffered by segues into the lives of characters peripheral to the murders, causing an effect where the murder descriptions become essentially background noise to what the reader considers the more 'human aspects' of the chapter. the reader can get to a point where they either consciously or unconsciously just want to skip the murder paragraphs and see what the journalist/lalo cura/the psychic lady/etc are up to instead, reflecting how the detectives and public at large are effectively handling the situation anyways

It is a meme and I was the one that first posted it. I literally bought a stack of those blu-rays for the photo then returned them. Note that they're still in their plastic wrapping.

The book is EXTREMELY incomprehensible because of the (bare minimum) double meaning of every sentence. In fact words are stacked on top of each other so that the sentence has an either/or logic gate in it, plus body motions you're supposed to perform according to punctuation marks.

Overall it was extremely difficult to read but I'll give it a 6.5/10. It wasn't quite as good as The Stranger.
