One of my biggest regrets in life is that I stopped practising Russian. I started learning when I was 16-17, for about a year in private, and another year doing a course. Could be fluent by now. Чepт пoбepи.

Anyway I'm currently learning Dutch and its similarities to the languages I'm fluent in make it very easy. Hoping to pick French up after.

I have a friend who's going next fall to china for a year to study, he kind of got me into it. I would say it's worth it, I mean, it's a lot more challenging than learning spanish or something, I still can't do much more than introduce myself and list off things about me, but I've been makin progress.

>I'm currently learning Dutch
Don't do this. It's a huge waste of time. Most Dutch people speak English and if you go up to them speaking broken Dutch, they're going to switch to English because they don't want to waste their time teaching some foreigner how to not butcher their irrelevant language. Forget Dutch and just jump straight to French. You'll get much more out of it.

Mongolian here. If you're not going to be living in a small village with only retired people, English will be more than enough to survive your daily life. Many companies are trying to be international so English should work for some kind of employment (I guess? I don't have personal experience of this), but I still feel like learning Finnish is crucial if you really want to be a part of the society. Also, Finnish people are always flattered when someone takes the effort to learn our silly yet beautiful language.

THIS

>This ability is called metacognition and is associated with, but separate from, other areas where bilinguals have been shown to have an advantage. Surprisingly, however, we found that bilinguals had less insight into their performance than their monolingual peers.

>However, monolinguals were better able than bilinguals to discriminate between when they were right and when they were wrong. In other words, bilinguals had less insight into their performance than monolinguals. This went against our initial predictions, as we expected to find a bilingual advantage in metacognitive processing. These results indicate that bilingualism may be associated with cognitive disadvantages

Is burning infants good for your skin? Google says yes! Does chain-smoking improve your erections? Google claims it also makes your dick longer! Is being an ignorant shit making you smarter? Google found a team of experts to affirm that very thing for you!

A ver pelotudo, se está burlando, los sustantivos que no sean personas no deberían por que tener su forma en lenguaje inclusive, lo mismo con los verbos y adjetivos. Si no te das cuenta de eso sos bastante pelotudito

Is the Duolingo course for Japanese any good? I'm considering learning it to pass the time in-between classes and totally not for any weebish reasons of course.

No, very bad as it's only just now being developed. I've been learning Japanese about a year now for the record. Better sources are bunpro, wanikani, nhk news sites, and anki decks.

The real pickle is that I mostly want to focus on the speech, but my best time to learn is between activities at work, but I can't listen to anything, just read. Any tips from someone pursuing Cantonese as well?
