Being a hikikomori is probably antithetical to a literary lifestyle. Someone can be unemployed or not in school and still have interesting experiences to write about. A person who's completely withdrawn from society won't have anything to draw from. I'm actually looking for books with characters like that but they seem to be incredibly rare.

I unironically wish I was NEET. Uni is so stressful and overwhelming. I do enjoy learning, but exams and having to worry about grades takes all of the joy out of it. I wish I could just follow my own schedule, learn on my own through reading books and watching lectures posted to youtube, and start writing once I think I'm educated enough to produce anything of quality.
