Ok I don't get him at ALL. So he's a homo, but he writes cute hetero love stories, and he has a wife with kids.

Was he actually gay?

Yeah I feel you. Try pretty much every modern greek author. While there are some hidden gems, the majority is unoriginal or just bad shit, since the average greek doesn't read literature. I was given a fantasy/romance book that tries to merge the pre ww2 greek era with anime tropes and illustrations in such a horrendous way, that get a strong feeling of suffocation or laugh manicaly when I read it. An Im on the first chapters. Cant imagine whats happening on the rest.

I kept waiting for a terrible turn, especially after he wondered if the gods would punish his selfish prayer, and it never really happened. Everything just worked out because of Shinji's virtue. It was a happy ending but it gave me anxiety all the way through before that.

Married men with children who are gay is not an uncommon occurrence, particularly in societies that repress homosexuality. See also: Oscar Wilde.

Writing cute love stories might be a way to compensate for a lack of intimacy (which for a homo in Japan in his time was something pretty common).

Let me guess: you watch anime and consider it "redpilled"

He seems to use boob as a symbol of general female attractiveness (which is what makes me say it seems like a gay guy wrote it cause its such a surface level thing) if you remember earlier on hatsue first sexually excites shinji when she gets some dirt or something on her tits and shakes it off and later when they first kiss she has him squeeze her there.

Dude what is up with the feminine snarkyness on boards like this

No, I don't watch anime. Who calls anime "redpilled"? It was just a weird chapter when he went into vivid detail about the shape of each girl's boobs and the direction the point in the sunlight in an otherwise very wholesome book.

>>12513648
Do you think Mishima is fundementally unable to appreciate the feminine spirit and female form because he is homosexual?

I thought the ending implied he wasn’t into the girl anymore even though he succeeded in overcoming every obstacle up to that point.

I forget that exact sentence but there was a possible subtle giveaway. Possibly the final line?

I dunno about those things exactly but I think if you arent actually attracted to something you can only understand its attractiveness symbolically. Compare the awkwardness of the breast stuff to the arresting earnestness of his description of Shinji's body and its strength.

It is a weird way to end the book. I thought it was just saying that he went from a boy to a man of his own volition or own strength, and that he didn’t necessarily do it for Natsune

Weird but also logical way to end the book

It shows he's come to know his own virtues through struggle, whereas we're shown a few times earlier that he's oblivious to them. I don't think it implies he doesnt love her. As you said its acknowledging his transition out of innocence or into a man.

That's true. Does anyone know of a writer similar to Mishima who isn't a homosexual?
